Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, quiet town. Many people who don't know about the place mistakenly think that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact, the West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this isn't the truth. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Her initial ambition was to be an actor, but after a sudden growth spurt her partners could no longer dance along with her. A Toronto Star article revealed she's 6 feet 1 inch tall and has heels. Once I outgrew male partners and gave up, I decided to give up. Brugel was one of many former dancers who shifted into acting. Her teacher from high school encouraged her into the right direction. The teacher recommended that she take part in an audition for the annual school production. After trying out, she ended up as the leading lady for Anne of Green Gables. The show was granted an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel has been involved in more than 60 shows, big and small. The most notable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character Rita in The Handmaid's Tale the series produced over the course of ten years.
